About Anna

I am a psychospiritual counselor, ordained shamanic minister, author, and teacher. I specialize in individual, couple, and family counseling that focuses on supporting the whole person: body mind heart + spirit, and integrates the healing wisdom and sensory strategies of nature. I maintain a private practice in Minneapolis, MN with distance-based options. I am a faculty member at Venus Rising University; teaching and traveling around the country.

I have a Doctorate of Ministry with a focus in Shamanic Psychospiritual Studies from Venus Rising University, a Master degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, and a Bachelor degree in Family Social Science. I was was legally ordained as a minister in 2006 by Madonna Ministry and as a shamanic minister in 2011 by the Shamanic Ministers Global Network. I utilize skills and expertise from both my counseling and ministerial training, practicing under my legal ordainment because this offers the opportunity to integrate counseling techniques with bodywork, shamanic breathwork, energy healing techniques, and a whole person perspective.

I am the author of Shamanic Wisdom for Pregnancy and Parenthood: Practices to Embrace the Transformative Power of Becoming a Parent (Bear & Co. 2017). I co-authored the book Sacred Medicine of Bee, Butterfly, Earthworm, and Spider: Shamanic Teachers of the Instar Medicine Wheel with Linda Star Wolf (Bear & Co. 2013). I am a certified shamanic breathwork facilitator and reiki energy healing practitioner. I am certified as a facilitator of spiritual support circles, and combine this with expertise as a group counselor. I was awarded the Outstanding Student Award for the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 2007. I was also awarded the Outstanding Student Award from the College of Human Ecology at the University of Minnesota in 2005.

I have worked as a sexual violence counselor at the Sexual Violence Center in Minneapolis. I have assisted clients in healing and empowering themselves who have experienced child sexual abuse, assault, partner abuse, depression, anxiety, substance abuse/dependencency, PTSD, trauma, grief/loss, fertility issues, and couple/family relationship challenges. Unifying all of these life challenges is the human spirit, which seeks to grow, learn, and explore how to become more fully present and alive on your life journey. I am ready to walk this road with you-with compassion, hope, and a commitment to your potential!

I have worked extensively with children and families, including positions at Generations Community Support Services, Fraser Child & Family Center, and the University of Wisconsin-Stout Clinical Services Center. Through this work, I have seen that kids benefit behaviorally and emotionally when nature is brought into counseling services and the classroom. Accordingly, I spent time as an environmental education consultant, winning a Buckman Fellowship for Leadership in Philanthropy from the University of Minnesota for my work with Minneapolis Public Schools.
